우정원 배우가 7월 21일 오후 서울 종로구 대학로 스튜디오 '일상적'에서 뉴시스와 인터뷰를 하였습니다.

▲ 손지윤 : 저 역시 정원이처럼 관객분들이 흥미로워하는 소재일까에 대한 궁금증이 있었어요. 일본(1977년 현지에서 초연)에서 오랫동안 사랑을 받을 수 있는 이유는 무엇일까에 대해서도 생각했죠. 배우가 읽기에 불편한 지점들이 있어요. 그것을 걷어냈을 때 발견할 수 있는 인간의 외로움은 모두가 느낄 수 있는 부분이 아닐까 생각했죠. 또 누구나 꿈을 이루기 위해 고군분투하는 점도 공감할 수 있을 것이라 생각했습니다.
▲ 우정원 : 극에서 배우들이 배역을 위한 쟁탈전을 벌이고, 시기와 질투를 하는 것이 불편했어요. 그런 (강한) 성향이 있는 사람들만 배우를 하는 건 아니거든요. 배우들 삶도 고단한데, 결과적인 모습만 보여주니까요. 대사 중엔 '배우가 화려해서 선택한 건 아니야'라는 말에 가장 공감했죠. 제가 하고 싶은 말이었어요. 인기를 얻거나 박수를 받고 싶어서 연기를 시작한 건 아니거든요.
▲ 손지윤 : 어쩔 수 없는 지점이 있지만 '여배우'라는 말에 대해 사회가 만들어낸 이미지나 편견, 선입견이 반영돼 있는 지점을 봤을 때 불편했죠. 그런데 인간 대 인간으로서 외로움이나 처연함을 느끼게 됐을 때, 공감이 됐어요. 작품 안에서 C 혼자 분장실에서 넋두리를 하는 부분이 있어요. 감정을 해소하고 한바탕 춤을 추죠. 얼마 전에 이 장면을 연습하는데 눈물이 주체할 수 없을 정도로 흐르는 거예요. 그 때 C가 안쓰럽고 가엾고 외로웠겠다는 생각이 들었죠. 배우는 선택 받는 직업이라 외로워요. 특히 여성 배우들이 나이가 들수록 역할을 맡기가 어렵죠. 어쩌다 배역이 생기더라도, 경쟁률도 높고요.
▲ 우정원 : 다양한 세대의 배우들(서이숙·정재은·배종옥·황영희·이상아·지우)이 출연하니, 좋은 의미에서 '세대차이'가 느껴져요. 지내온 환경에 따라 달라진 성격과 생각을 지켜보는 것만으로도 배우는 것이 많죠. 특히 저희는 중간자 입장이라 더 많은 영향을 받죠."

▲ 우정원 : ('스카이캐슬' '화양연화 : 삶이 꽃이 되는 순간' 등을 통해 경험한) TV드라마는 연극과 기술적으로 다르더라고요. 공연은 제 전체를 쓰는데 드라마는 카메라를 통해 제 연기의 특정 부분을 선택하니까요. 여러 부위를 얼굴로 쏟거나 자유 자재로 능력이 더 필요하겠다는 생각이 들었죠.
▲ 손지윤 : (드라마 '미씽 : 그들이 있었다', '비밀의 숲2' 등에 출연했는데) 너무나 다른 장르더라고요. 이 다른 장르를 자유자재로 오가는 배우들이 잘하는 배우가 아닐까 생각해요. 앞으로 대중매체 경험을 더 쌓고 재미를 느끼고 싶어요.
▲ 우정원 : 춤을 배우는 걸 좋아해요. 제 여러 몸동작을 보게 되면, 말초신경까지 깨달음이 와요. 배우로서 유용하죠. 무대에서 어떤 몸짓을 해도 관객이 볼 때, 부끄럽거나 추하지 않을 거라는 자신감이 생겼어요.
▲ 손지윤 : 전 작품을 통해 배우는 걸 좋아해요. '인간 손지윤'은 불완전해서, 좀 더 주체적인 역할에 끌리죠. 이번 C 역할은 그런데 결이 달라요. 위태롭고 불안하죠. 제 내면 깊숙한 곳에 자리잡아, 보여주고 싶지 않은 속내가 까발려지는 느낌이에요. 그걸 막기 위해 방어적인 모습을 보이는 C가 처연하게 느껴지고 그래서 위로를 받아요. 누구나 이런 모습이 있잖아요. 여배우라는 껍데기를 벗겨내 인간 대 인간으로서 살아가는 것에 대해 질문을 던지죠.
▲ 우정원 : 코로나19는 사람과 사람이 만나는 것에 대한 중요성을 새삼 깨닫게 했어요. 거기에 대해 모두가 갈증을 느끼고 있다는 걸 알게 했죠. 그래서 연극은 쇠퇴하지 않고, 오히려 더 가치를 인정받을 거라 생각해요.
▲ 손지윤 : 무관중 생중계 촬영을 한 적이 있는데 커튼콜 때 한 없이 울었어요. 연극은 현장에 대한 생명력을 갖고 있죠.
▲ 우정원 : 더블 캐스팅이 처음이에요. 그래서 처음엔 긴장을 많이 했어요. 지윤이가 만나자마자 친근하게 대해줘 고마웠어요. 배우뿐만 아니라 인간으로서 경계가 허물어졌죠. 성격이 너무 좋아요.
▲ 손지윤 : 정원이는 너무 잘해서 평소부터 관심이 있던 배우예요. 제가 계속 집요하게 먼저 연락했어요. 하하. 정원이를 보고 있으면, 경쟁과 견제는 쓰잘머리가 없다는 걸 새삼 깨달아요. 우리 또래 여성 배우들이 드문데 서로 존중하고 발전하면서 연대하고 있습니다.

▲ Woo Jung-won: It was uncomfortable for the actors to scramble for the role, the timing and jealousy in the play. It's not just people who have that tendency to act. Actors' lives are tough, but they only show the results. Among the lines, I sympathized the most with the saying, "I didn't choose the actor because he was gorgeous. That's what I wanted to say. I didn't start acting because I wanted to get popularity or applause.
▲ Son Ji-yoon: Although there are inevitable points, it was uncomfortable to see the image, prejudice, and prejudice that society created about the term "actress." But as a human to human, when I felt lonely or miserable, I sympathized with it. There's a part where C whines alone in the dressing room. Let's relieve our emotions and dance. There are many things you learn just by watching your personality and thoughts that have changed depending on your environment. In particular, we are more influenced by the middleman."
▲ Son Ji-yoon: You can share young thoughts and values of your juniors, and you can overcome difficulties thanks to your senior's experience. The fact that actors from various generations are gathered means a lot, and it has a positive impact on the work.
▲ Woo Jung-won: The TV drama (experienced through 'Sky Castle' and 'When Life Becomes a Flower') was technically different from the play. I use my entire performance, but I choose a certain part of my acting through the camera. I thought that I needed more skills by pouring various parts into my face or freely.
▲ Son Ji-yoon: (I appeared in the dramas 'Missing: There They Were' and 'Stranger 2') It was such a different genre. I think actors who come and go freely in different genres are good actors. I want to gain more media experience and have more fun in the future.
▲ Woo Jung-won: I like to learn how to dance. When I see my various body movements, I even realize peripheral nerves. It's useful as an actor. I gained confidence that no matter what I do on stage, I won't be ashamed or ugly in the eyes of the audience.
▲ Son Ji-yoon: I like to learn from works. "Human Son Ji-yoon" is incomplete, so she's attracted to a more subjective role. But the C role is different. It's precarious and disturbing. I feel like I'm deeply inside myself, revealing my innermost feelings that I don't want to show. C, who is defensive to prevent it, feels sad and comforted. Everyone looks like this. ▲ Woo Jung-won: Friendship: Corona 19 has made me realize the importance of people meeting. I let everyone know that they're thirsty for it. So I don't think the play will decline, but rather be valued more.
▲ Son Ji-yoon: I once filmed a live show of no audience, and I cried endlessly during the curtain call. The play has the vitality to the scene.
▲ Woo Jung-won: It's my first double casting. So I was very nervous at first. I was thankful that Jiyoon treated me friendly as soon as we met. As a human being as well as an actor, the boundaries have been broken. He has a great personality.
